The dal is topped with green chutney, tamarind date chutney and chopped onion. Dal Pakwan is a typical Sindhi dish which gets traditionally served on the second day of the wedding for breakfast. The bride's family sends this breakfast so that the bride can get time to mingle with the family rather than getting stuck in the kitchen. Dal Pakwan is a royal Sindhi (Indian) breakfast.

Instructions to make Dal pakwan:
  1. For dal: Firstly, take a cooker and add soaked chana dal along with 3 cups of water. Add salt and turmeric powder. Cover the lid and let it cook for 5-6 whistle.
  2. After pressure settles down, open the lid and check it. Slightly mash it. Keep aside.
  3. Heat a kadai, add ghee. Then splutter cumin seeds. Add star anise, chillies and curry leaves.
  4. Then add asafoetida and tomato. Saute it until softened.
  5. Add turmeric, red chilli powder and salt. Then add cooked chana dal. Mix it well.
  6. Add water to adjust consistency. Add garam masala and let it boil for 5 minutes.
  7. Then add lemon juice and coriander leaves.
  8. For pakwan: Take a large bowl, add wheat flour, maida, semolina,salt, crushed black pepper, carom seeds and hot oil. Mix it properly by rubbing it.
  9. Then add some water and knead the dough. Take a ball sized dough and roll it thin. Shape of pakwan is poori shaped but here I made pakwan of different square shaped. You can make any shape of your choice.
  10. Prick the pakwan with the help of fork. So it can not be puffed. Then deep fry it until golden and crisp. You can also bake it(180 celsius for 15-20 minutes).
  11. Now take a serving plate, put a pakwan then add dal. Sprinkle chat masala. Add all chutneys, chopped onion and chopped coriander. Enjoy it.
